Why I love Rocksbox!

If you haven’t heard of Rocksbox yet, you just don’t know what you’re missing. Think of it as Netflix for jewelry, a never ending jewelry box. You begin by signing up for a subscription and Rocksbox will send you 3 pieces of jewelry at a time. Wear them as much as you like and when you’re done send everything back in a handy prepaid mailer and wait for your next delivery to arrive. Here are just a few reasons why I'm loving this new service.

My first Rocksbox!
You can exchange as many sets as you want in a month. There have been several occasions where my Rocksbox came in the mail, I wore it the next day and it was back in the box getting shipped out to its Rocksbox home the very next day. You decide how long you want to keep a set, whether it’s a day, a week or a month.

Turnaround time is quick. This was actually my biggest concern when I signed up for the service. Since you ship your set with a prepaid label that they provide, as soon as the tracking is picked up by USPS you get an email telling you “thanks for returning your Rocksbox, your new box will be sent out soon.” Typically, I get an email the very next day saying that a new Rocksbox is already on its way to me.
Rocksbox #2 - I loved both these pieces.
If you love it, you can buy it. If you receive a piece of jewelry that you love, you can just keep it and Rocksbox with bill your credit card. You can keep just 1 piece, or all of them, or none of them. Your not required to purchase anything additional outside your subscription.

Your stylist really listens to your feedback. The best way to get pieces you love is to create a wish list and then to provide feedback when you receive your box. A few times there were items that I had put on my wish list, but when they arrived they weren’t exactly what I had in mind. I was sure to note exactly what I didn’t like in my feedback so that my stylist would know the type of jewelry I preferred. You can also let your stylist know if you have a special event coming up and there’s something particular you want.

My third Rocksbox.
It’s fun! One of the reasons my husband thought Rocksbox would be a great gift for me is because I’m completely non-committal when it comes to jewelry. I’ll see something I like, but I’ll never pull the trigger to buy it for myself. Rocksbox gives me the freedom to try different pieces and send them back when I’m ready for something new. If I really do love them, I can always go ahead and purchase a piece, or the whole set!

So what does it cost? Rocksbox costs just $21 a month and that includes free shipping on all your items and as many sets as you’d like to exchange. If you’d like to give Rocksbox a try you can use my code: SHANNONBBFF367 and you’ll get a free month of jewelry! When you get a free month of Rocksbox, I get a $25 credit.

Father's Day Gift Idea

Since it's June and Father's Day is just around the corner I thought I'd share one of my most favorite Father's Day gifts that I've put together.  You can click here and read through the tutorial, but it's basically a board book with your own pictures attached to personalize it.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week at our school.  As a former teacher I always try to be extra grateful during this week.  Here's a few ideas for the week.

This could easily be adapted for an end of the year or summer survival kit.

Toilet Paper Roll Snowflake Ornament

This ornament is similar to the one I posted a few days ago but with a different twist.

Supply List: white spray paint, 1 toilet paper roll, glitter glue, scissors, stapler, pipe cleaner

Squish your toilet paper roll in half and cut small strips with your scissors.

Use your stapler to connect the strips into a flower shape.  Take your flower shape outside and spray paint it white.  Allow plenty of time for it to dry.

Add some sparkly glitter glue.

Use your pipe cleaner to hang that beauty up on the tree.  It's hard to see how much it sparkles in this picture, but my kids love the glitter glue so it is nice an twinkly.

Book Suggestion: We are crazy about the Old Lady books around here.  There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow! is another awesome addition to our collection.  Even if you live where it doesn't snow (ahem, Florida) kids can still appreciate this funny, rhyming story.

Toilet Paper Roll Christmas Ornament

I'm going to take a break from Elf Shenanigans for the next day or two to post some toilet paper roll crafts for the Christmas holiday.  But don't worry, Elfie will be back before you know it.

Supply List: 1 toilet paper roll, green construction paper, stapler, paint, scissors

Fold your toilet paper in half and squish it down.  Cut 6 small strips of your toilet paper roll.

Use your stapler to form the toilet paper roll strips into a flower shape.  You could also use glue, but we're really impatient around here so I just used a stapler.

Paint your flower red and glue a few green circles into the center.

Use your pipe cleaner to hang this lovely little ornament to the tree.  This would almost make a nice gift for a grandparent.

Back To School Teacher Survival Kit

These are the back-to-school survival kits that I made for the kids' teachers last year.  I hope the school supply cakes that I'm working on for this year turn out as nice.
You see more pictures of the survival kits here.

Nailed it!

I'm getting ready for back-to-school and I just came across an idea I had saved for Cole's teacher last year.  I was going to make her one of those school supply *cakes* for teacher appreciation, but decided on a gift card for our local liquor store instead.  I saved all the school supplies for a back-to-school gift for his new teacher this year.  I like to get to know our teachers before I start buying them booze.

Dish & Bowl Bird Feeder

This is a little project that the kids and I whipped up for Mother's Day this year.  It was super easy and the kids had fun helping me make them.

Supply List: 1 plate, 1 bowl, 1 long threaded bolt, 4 washers, 4 nuts, ribbon or twill, silicone glue, drill.
Note: I can't tell you exactly what the long threaded bolt thing is but I found it at Home Depot in the nuts & bolts aisle.  I bought the one that is 12 inches long.

Drill holes in your plate and bowl.  This was easy as long as I had a wood block under them.  I just used a piece of our Giant Jenga Game.

Once you've drilled your holes you can begin assembling your bird feeder.  I started at the bottom.  Thread from the end in this order: 1 nut, 1 washer, bowl, washer, nut.  I started my first nut about 1 or 1.5 inches from the end.  Add a little glue in between your nuts and tighten.

After we had the bowl on we worked on adding the plate.  Working on the other end thread in this order: 1 nut, plate,  2 washers, 1 nut.

Before you tighten everything up you want to add your ribbon or twill between the 2 washers.  I cut a small hole right in the middle of the ribbon and just threaded it onto the bolt between the 2 washers.  Add a little glue and tighten it up.

Allow your glue to dry for a few hours, or a day and then fill your feeder with seed and hang it up.  The Cardinals LOVE this feeder.  I have it hanging right off the back patio and they are always up there eating off it.

Book Suggestion: My kids love National Geographic Kids Bird Guide of North America: The Best Birding Book for Kids.  It's filled with great facts about North American birds and the pictures are outstanding.

Father's Day Gift Idea

Since Father's Day is this weekend I thought I'd share one of my favorite gifts I've ever made.  It's a board book that I put together for my husband a few years ago.  The kids STILL love to look at and read it.  You can see all the details on how to make your own here.

Back To School Teacher Survival Kit

This was a little something I put together for the teachers for the first day of school.  I got the idea for the kits from here and here.  I had a few empty paint cans laying around and used those to hold everything.  They were a big hit!!!
