Summer Boredom Busters for Kids :: Easy 4th of July Crafts for Kids

The 4th of July is right around the corner and it's the perfect time for some crafting with the kids.  This was a post I did for the Jacksonville Moms Blog last year with some great activities for the kids.

Stamp Your Own Gift Bag

Gift Bag Supply List: 1 gift bag, 1 toilet paper roll, paint

Use a bowl or plate to mix up some paint.  Cole wanted to mix some green with a little yellow and some glitter glue.  Glitter glue is very popular around here these days.

Use your toilet paper roll to stamp circles on your gift bag.

Add some tissue paper and ribbon and you have a lovely gift for Father's Day!

Wandering Wednesday {Bathroom Border Stencil}

I thought this little number over on the House*Tweaking site was brilliant.  Using a toilet paper roll to stamp circles on the walls of your bathroom is a great decorating tip.  I might have to try this when we move into our new house.

Paper Towel Roll Stamp Roller

Stamp Roller Supply List: 1 paper towel roll, paint, large construction paper, self adhesive foam stickers
Start by adhering your foam stickers to your paper towel roll.  Cole loved this part!

Roll your paper towel roll in paint.  I spread some paint on the back of a paper plate because the cardboard tube wouldn't fit down inside the plate to roll it around.
Roll carefully over your paper.  We let it dry and then Cole drew some other creations on his paper.  It was fun to look over the stamping and point out the different shapes and animals that we saw.

Make Your Own Heart Wrapping Paper

This was a really fun activity that Cole absolutely loved.  We made our own heart stamped wrapping paper for him to use to wrap up a little Valentine's Day present he had gotten for Dad.

Heart Wrapping Paper Supply List: 1 toilet paper roll, large sheet of craft paper, paint, small piece of tape

Start by folding your toilet paper roll until it is in the shape of a heart.  I put a small piece of tape across the top of the heart to help it keep its form.  This worked out well because Cole didn't need to try to hold it together while he was stamping.
Dip your newly made heart stamp in your paint and have at it.  The more saturated and mushy the end of the toilet paper roll became, the better the prints looked.
After stamping lots of pink hearts Cole decided to switch to purple.  Instead of just getting him a new plate of purple paint I added some blue to the pink and we mixed them together.
Allow your paper to dry and then use it to wrap your present.  This was a really fun project that I'm sure we will be repeating for other holidays.
